Headers and Footers

Your script, your rules—customize headers and footers with ease✨

Header & Footer Settings

Header and Footer settings in Scripto are user-level preferences, meaning they apply across all scripts in your workspace.

If you enable Title, Page Number, or select Custom in one script, those selections will appear in your other scripts as well — until you change or disable them.

If you enter script-specific text in the Custom field, that text will also carry across your scripts, since the setting is tied to your user profile rather than an individual document.

So if you add a custom header that says “This is the best script ever!” — it will appear on all your scripts.

(It may very well be true for all of them — just make sure that’s intentional. 😉)

WYSIWYG:

Headers and footers appear directly in the editor — no need to print or export to preview them.

Settings:

Open Headers and footers any time from the … menu in the upper right corner of the script editor.

This interface will let you customize what appears in the header and footer of your scripts.

Global Options:

  • Include header - Uncheck to hide the header or footer entirely.

  • Show header on first page - Check to display the header or footer on every page, including the first page.

(Standard screenplay formatting excludes headers and footers on the first page.)

  • Horizontal rule: Adds a line between the header/footer and the body of the script.

Header & Footer Positions

Headers and footers have three positions - left, center, and right – where you can insert a value. You can also leave a position blank.

The values Scripto currently supports are:

  • Date and time – Displays the date and time that the script was printed or exported.

  • Page number – Displays the current page number, starting at 1 and incremented by 1.

  • Page number/total – Displays the current page out of total pages (e.g., Page 3/10).

  • Script duration – Displays the total runtime (e.g., 17:24).

Available for Variety scripts only. This field will remain blank in screenplay format.

  • Title – Displays the script’s title.

  • Title and section info – Displays the script title plus Act (Screenplays) or Act and Slug (Variety) details.

Note: Long titles may wrap in the editor view. In print or export, the second line is reserved for section information.

  • Custom text – Selecting this option reveals a text field where you can enter custom header or footer content.
