Change-Tracking Mode

When every edit counts

Written by Christiane Jory

Scripto's change-tracking feature lets your team propose, review, and resolve edits in a clear and controlled way. This is different from Revisions Mode (which deals with color-coded drafts)—we'll cover that in another article.
In Scripto, change-tracking is centrally toggled and visible to all users, creating a unified, real-time view of proposed edits.

What is change-tracking mode?

When enabled, change-tracking allows edits to appear as:

  • Green for additions

  • Red for deletions

These edits are treated as proposed changes until they are reviewed, e.g. approved or declined, by users with the correct permissions.

Permissions

There are two separate permissions related to change-tracking mode:

  1. Enable change-tracking mode – Allows users to turn the feature on or off.

  2. Approve and decline tracked changes – Allows users to accept or decline edits made by anyone.

Admins can assign these permissions to different roles depending on your workflow.

How It Works

A user with permission toggles change-tracking mode on.

  • All users in the script immediately see tracked changes (even if they don’t have permissions).

  • Anyone can make edits and these edits are automatically tracked in the Changes Panel, accessed by the Changes tab in the upper right toolbar.

Accepting and Declining Changes

  • Removes the color indicator and finalizes the text.

  • Moves the proposed change to the resolved section.

  • Can be done individually or bundled with the Accept / Decline All options in the 3 dot menu.

  • If someone tries to disable change-tracking while there are still unreviewed changes, a pop-up will appear to remind you that those changes must be reviewed first.

Once all proposed changes are reviewed, change-tracking can/will be turned off.

Important Notes

  • Change-tracking is document-wide: when it’s on, it’s on for everyone in that script.

  • Users without any permissions:

    • Will see tracked changes.

    • Can make edits, which appear as proposed changes.

    • Cannot approve or decline others’ changes.

    • Can delete their own proposed changes.

      • Only the original author of a proposed edit can delete it from the Changes panel.
